If you’re still new to making money online, Fiverr might just be the right platform to get you started. When I first got into the make money online space, Fiverr was the platform that set me on track. I had no real plan and no real knowledge of the site. I just wanted to make money on Fiverr. So how did I do it? In this post I’ll be showing you how to make money on Fiverr in very simple steps.

Fiverr Basics

If you already know all about Fiverr, feel free to skip this part (although there are some nuggets you may miss if you do)

The site Fiverr.com is online freelancing platform where you get paid for rendering services. It’s sort of an Ebay for services. People  on Fiverr are either buying or selling services from one another. Services such as: article writing, proof reading, logo creation and graphics design, voice-over etc. Whatever service you can think of, someone offers it on Fiverr.

Fiverr Terminologies used in the marketplace

  • Buyer : Fiverr users in need of service.
  • Seller: these are users who render services to buyers.
  • GIGS® : these are packages service that you (the seller) are rendering to the buyer.
  • Gig extras : additional services offered with a gig for an additional price e.g  If you have a gig with delivery date of 5 days at $15 , you can set a gig extra  to have it delivered in 2 days for an extra $10.
  • Order: a binding agreement between the buyer and the seller on an agreed purchase. It contains the title of the project, the gig title , price and set time to complete the purchase.
  • Order page: this is where the buyer and seller discuss on the ordered gig (if the buyer has additional info or if the seller has any questions or requirements from the buyer )
  • Custom offers: when a buyer requests an extra service not included in the gig description, the seller sends a custom offer which is then confirmed by the buyer.
  • Custom order request: a request sent by the buyer to receive a custom offer from the seller.
  • Revenue: the money you (seller) earn from completed orders.
  • Buyer request page:  this is a page on Fiverr where the buyer posts a request (with/without a budget and a time frame to get the project done), multiple sellers then send request to the buyer.
  • Level one seller: this level is attained when you’ve been active for 30 days and completed at least 10 orders
  • Level two seller:  you become a level 2 seller when you complete 50 orders and spent two months while maintaining excellent ratings.
  • Top rated seller:  you become a top rated seller when you’ve being active for at least 180 days, completed at least 100 orders and earned $20,000 or more.

Common Misconceptions about Fiverr

Fiverr takes a great percentage of your revenue

This is one of the most common misconceptions about Fiverr . Fiverr started out as a platform where you can get any service for just $5 (hence the name Fiverr). One would expect that with this ridiculous fee, you’ll get to keep all you earn. But, Fiverr takes  $1 for every $5 you earn leaving you with $4, which means Fiverr takes 20% of your revenue. Don’t forget Fiverr is free to join with no monthly fees, so it is still a small price to pay compared to other freelancing platforms( where you pay a monthly fee and give out 35% of your revenue). Fiverr has since evolved into a premium freelancing platform over the years. Now, there are Gigs in tens, hundreds and even thousands.

You can run it on auto pilot

There’s been so many self-acclaimed Fiverr gurus selling courses on how to money on Fiverr. Some of these gurus claim you can set up your account, make a few tweaks, do nothing and the orders start rolling in. This isn’t true, just like any business ,you need to put in the work to attract customers, provide the best service to keep them coming and also refer others.

It is hard to make money on Fiverr.

Of course Fiverr initially pays you $4 per sale, so the key is not to spend much time delivering the gigs, right? Nope! Most newbies complain about how hard it is to make money on Fiverr. What they fail to realize is the need to provide value to the buyer.

Nowadays, many of the Fiverr sellers (those you’ll be competing with) are willing to put in a lot of time and effort into their Fiverr Gigs, especially the ones from countries where a few dollars can really make a difference. This is why as a new seller, you need to put in extra effort, ensure you’re online always and check the buyer request page always.

Fiverr favours established seller over new ones.

The truth is, Fiverr wants to make money and so do you. More sellers on Fiverr mean more money right? But fewer buyers on the site will translate to the death of the business literally. So as a platform set out to make money, Fiverr will tend to give more exposure to sellers with more excellent ratings than those with poor ratings no matter how long you’ve spent on the platform.

You need an American profile for you to make money on Fiverr

For most Pakistani, Indian and Nigerian freelancers, the general belief is that you need an American profile for you to earn money on Fiverr. This is also not true. There are hundreds of Indians and Nigerians who are top rated sellers and make thousands of dollars monthly on Fiverr.

How to make money on Fiverr

There was one thing I discovered after a few months running different Fiverr accounts.

If you take a good look at most services on Fiverr, you’ll notice that most services cater to small business owners, things that someone who owns a start-up or very small business might need when they’re too small to afford more. This is why certain types of gigs are always in constant need. One of my accounts literally exploded after getting a few initial sales and positive feedback from buyers.

And this is where the real money is to be made on Fiverr. Most small business owners often need a service done fast and have no real idea of what they’re doing (no offense if you’ve used Fiverr for your business). So if you can offer them even the most BASIC of services in an area where they are REALLY DESPERATE for information, you can make BANK. (That’s what I’m going to show you how to do.)

Basically, there are three different ways to make money on Fiverr.

Note: this is a three part series. This part covers “sell your skills”, you can check out other ways to make money on Fiverr through any of the links above or download the full series here.

Basic Guides to creating a Fiverr Gig

• Your gig title is important, keep your titles short and clear.

• Make sure all your gig images are of high quality.

• In your description, ensure that your services are explained in detail. Give reasons that’ll convince the buyer to order your gig. If you are a graphic designer (or any service that you can show off your previous works) put a link to your portfolio page. For article writers, you can put a link to your blog.

• As a newbie, ensure that your gigs are not so many, and make sure your gigs belong in the same category. For example if you offer article writing services, you can also offer proof reading, email writing service, sales page content e.tc. It wouldn’t make sense for you to be an article writer and also offer web development service …. You’ll look like a jack of all trade (master of none).

• Use appropriate tags to make your gigs searchable.

• Do not set long delivery time when you’re just getting started. You can later adjust your delivery time when you start getting orders.

• Make sure your instructions are clear enough, this will save the buyers from asking unnecessary questions; ask them to provide the necessary details that will aid your work if available.

Gigs you can sell on fiverr

These are some of the best gigs you can sell on Fiverr.

Logo Gigs

A logo is one of the most important part of a business; it symbolizes the company and stands as a face of what it represents. Logo design gigs are one of the highest selling services on Fiverr.

For this gig, you must have at least basic design skills (or be able to use different templates). You can learn to use Adobe Photoshop or Correl draw.

Tip: If you’re just getting started I always advice you offer more than one logo for the price of one jut to get the sales rolling in (you can change it later).

If you’re using the buyers request, you can pitch your services using this line (do not copy word for word).

Hi {buyer’s name} I can see you need a logo, I can get this done. I will not just design, but I will create a stunning and effective logo that is easy to remember and communicates to your target audience of what your company is. I have years of experience with using adobe Photoshop to create logos, banners and graphics. Here’s a link to my portfolio https://…. (Just like I said earlier, rewrite this template in your own words, this line can be used for any design gigs , just edit to suit your gig)

If you deliver an article that’s below par to a buyer, that’s the end of the relationship between you and the buyer. And if a buyer is impressed with your work, you’ve made a customer for life.

Emails

Writing emails? What? Who would pay anyone to write an email for them? Well, these aren’t regular emails but promo emails for different businesses for their email marketing campaigns. I suggest reading this free resource to get started.
